Wist je dat …
Bomen ook een soort "kanker" kunnen krijgen? Ze ontwikkelen abnormale groeivormen zoals heksenbezems (witches' broom), gallen en burls. Deze tumorachtige groeivormen ontstaan door bacteriën, virussen, insecten of genetische mutaties. Het grote verschil met kanker bij mensen is dat boomkanker zich niet kan verspreiden naar andere delen van de boom. Je kunt ze simpelweg wegsnoeien en ze komen meestal niet terug. Veel van deze groeivormen zijn zelfs niet schadelijk en voegen juist interessante karakters toe aan het landschap!

Liefde ligt in de lucht! De Feestcommissie nodigt jullie uit voor een onvergetelijke Valentijnborrel op donderdag 19 februari vanaf 21:00 uur in Café de Brouwerij.
Of je nu single bent, een date meeneemt of gewoon gezellig met vrienden komt: iedereen is welkom! We zorgen voor de perfecte mix van romantiek en gezelligheid, en natuurlijk trakteren we jullie op de eerste 100 bier, wijn en fris - helemaal gratis! 🍻🍷
Dus trek je leukste outfit aan, neem je Valentijn (of je beste maten) mee en vier de liefde met ons. Het wordt een avond om niet te vergeten!

Bestuur: Fossielen Zoeken 🪨 🦴
Ga 24 & 26 februari mee op avontuur bij de zandwinning H.H. van der Velde in Alteveer en ontdek een wereld vol bijzondere stenen en fossielen! Van kiezelstenen die 40 miljoen jaar onderweg zijn geweest via de oerrivier Eridanos tot zwerfstenen uit de ijstijden: hier is elke steen een verhaal.
Met je hamer en bijtel in de hand leer je hoe je sedimentair gesteente kunt splijten op zoek naar fossielen, terwijl je tegelijkertijd oog krijgt voor prachtige kristallen, geoden en bijzondere zwerfstenen. Misschien vind jij wel een oeroude schelp, een stukje versteend hout of een oerkies!
📋 WAT NEEM JE MEE:
- Labbril (verplicht!)
- Handschoenen
- Oude kleding
- Hamer/bijtel
- Lunch
- Eventueel een emmertje voor je vondsten
⚠️ Veiligheid staat voorop: volg altijd de aanwijzingen en draag je bril.

Did you know …
That trees can get a form of "cancer"? They develop abnormal growths like witches' brooms, galls, and burls. These tumor-like formations are caused by bacteria, viruses, insects, or genetic mutations. The big difference from human cancer: tree cancers cannot easily spread to other parts of the tree or to other trees. You can simply prune them off and they usually won't come back. Many of these growths are actually harmless and add interesting character to the landscape!

Board: Fossil Hunt🪨 🦴
Join us on an adventure at the H.H. van der Velde sand extraction center in Alteveer on February 24th and 26th and discover a world full of extraordinary stones and fossils! From pebbles that have traveled 40 million years via the ancient river Eridanos to erratic boulders from the Ice Ages: every stone has a story to tell.
With your hammer and chisel in hand, you'll learn how to split sedimentary rock in search of fossils, while simultaneously developing an eye for beautiful crystals, geodes, and unique erratic boulders. You might even find an ancient shell, a piece of petrified wood, or a primordial molar!
📋 WHAT TO BRING:
- Lab goggles (required!)
- Gloves
- Old clothes
- Hammer/chisel
- Lunch
- Possibly a bucket for your finds
⚠️ Safety first: always follow the instructions and wear your goggles. Every excursion is a surprise and a chance to literally hold the history of our planet in your hands. Come see, search, and discover – and take a piece of prehistory home with you!
